Identification Procedure
Nominations
DPS Criteria is used to identify students for the AIG program.

Any student, parent, teacher and/or staff member can nominate a student to be considered for the AIG program.*

All nominations are directed to the AIG Specialist, Abby Exum. Contact can be made via email-abby.exum@dpsnc.net, telephone-919.560.3939, or a written note addressed to Abby Exum.

Nomination for the AIG program does not ensure testing and/or identification.
Data Gathering
Once parental permission is received, the AIG Facilitator will begin to gather data including, but not limited to, the following items:

Achievement test scores

Aptitude test scores
-
Most recent report card
-
Work samples
-
Survey data from teachers and/or parents

What happens once data is collected?

Lakewood's AIG committee meets to review data and determine identification/service options. A student can be Intellectually Gifted (IG), Academically Gifted (AG), Academically and Intellectually Gifted (AIG) or Does Not Qualify for Services.
What are the differences?

IG = 97th percentile on a nationally-normed aptitude assessment

AG = 90th percentile or above on nationally-normed achievement and EOG >85th percentile/class grade >90%

AIG = >90th percentile on 2 of the 3 following criteria: Nationally-normed achievement, Aptitude assessment, EOG >85th percentile/Class grade >90%

Does not qualify = the criteria is not met
Once the students is identified for services, what happens?

Based on the data gathered, the AIG Committee will match a service option to the student's needs, and a Differentiated Education Plan (DEP) will be developed. The parents will be invited to a conference in which the DEP will be reviewed and then the parent signs. Parents will meet at the beginning of each school year to review and sign a new DEP.
New Students
Students transferring within the DPS system will retain their identification. Students new to the DPS system who wish to be considered for identification need the following:

Any AIG identification from previous school
