Hi!

I'm Ms. Exum and I will be joining the Lakewood Elementary team this school year as the AIG Specialist. Education is an absolute passion of mine and I'm so excited to be serving students in this capacity. I know this year is going to be full of learning and new adventures and I can't wait to get started!

Soon, I will be seeing a lot of new faces from kindergarten to fifth grade but I thought you might like to know a little about me first. I live in Durham and love it! I enjoy going to Durham Bulls' games and trying new restaurants. Some of my hobbies include drinking coffee, exercising, playing with my puppy, Mowgli, and traveling. My hometown is Wilmington, North Carolina. Growing up on the coast fostered my love of the beach which is where I spend a lot of time in the summer. My mom, dad, sister and nephew still live in Wilmington, lucky for me! I get to visit my family and visit the beach.

I attended the University of North Carolina – Wilmington for Elementary Education. After college, I moved to Durham, NC where I started my teaching career. After a year in the classroom I knew that I needed to do something to increase my ability to engage and challenge my gifted students. I was lucky to be chosen for the AIG Licensure program at Duke University. Since then I have continued to learn and utilize strategies for gifted students. This will be my eighth year in education. Each year is a new experience and I'm looking forward to continuing my journey as the AIG specialist at Lakewood.
