A busy two weeks...

There has been a lot of excitement at Lakewood in the past few weeks. Wednesday's Walk and Bike to School Event was amazing! Students and staff gathered at The Scrap Exchange and walked the mile to Lakewood wearing their royal blue Lakewood University t-shirts. Students and adults alike had fun and several students were commenting how they wanted to walk to school everyday!

Fifth grade debated the dilemma, Is revenge ever justified? Using what they read in The Bridge to Terabithia, a short cartoon version of Hamlet and their own experiences they recorded reasons to support both sides in a thinking exercise called Tug of War (from Making Thinking Visible). Some interesting arguments they came up with included: Revenge is sweet (for yes) and People could get hurt (for no).

Kindergarten is working on using their five senses and deductive thinking skills. We looked for clues of visitors in the garden. We read In the Garden, Who's Been Here? and then took a trip to our school garden. Students found a chrysalis, holes in leaves and a spider web.
