2nd Grade - Mental & Physical Perseverance

Before break, second graders completed a unit around the concept of perseverance. First, students explored perseverance through quotes, a wordless short video and a current event article. We also discussed the difference between mental and physical perseverance.

Then, students selected their own texts to read from a selection of books that center around the theme of perseverance. After reading, students worked on writing a retell of the story and also explained how they character showed perseverance.

Finally, students presented their work to their classmates and constructed a double bubble map comparing their character's experiences with perseverance using their writing and yarn.

After finishing the construction of the double bubble map, students thought critically about what lessons they learned about perseverance. Students responded, "Mental and physical perseverance are important to accomplish things in life, " and, "People in a different situations show mental and physical perseverance."
