Movie Magic in 2nd Grade
Second graders are working on something really exciting - their own theater productions! They are rewriting Aesop's fables into theater scripts. To understand how this works, we worked together to rewrite the Tortoise and the Hare. Students decided what the speaking parts would be and wrote the scene notes and dialogue while I modeled how to write in the format of a script. Then, as a surprise, some volunteers from Duke came to record the production with a green screen!
Students performed their script while a real life director filmed it!
After a couple of takes of each scene, the director got to work adding the background setting for the video. Students loved getting to watch the finished movie!
Due to schedules (and snow days), we weren't able to write the ending of Tortoise and the Hare but check out what students were able to do in just two sessions!
Next, students will work in groups to write and create their own movie based on a fable!
